OUTDOOR SCHOOL PROJECT

Salmon Hot Springs property dates back to the early 1800s and served as a local gathering place and vegetable provider up until the mid 1930s. With changes in ownership the property has been closed to the public. The current owner has come into agreement with Youth Employment Program to create a community recreation site and residential housing location for Youth Employment Program participants.

The owner has just completed the necessary planning and zoning process with Lemhi County and has the necessary approval for a long-term master plan. The intent of this project is to create a unique training and learning program that is based upon a sustainable business model that supports local tradition of providing recreation and food to the community.

It is the vision of this project that youth will learn outdoor skills that can be utilized in several industries either at the local level or once they leave the area to pursue new careers  or seek higher education degrees.

Situated on 364 acres with a geothermal hot spring and adjacent to over 1 million acres of public lands this property is unique in character and opportunity. The owner has spent the last 4 years taming noxious weeds, repairing boundary fences, re-establishing irrigation systems and improving geothermal collection and distribution systems.

Youth Employment Program is actively soliciting support for this project to help it provide the necessary housing and infrastructure to support its existing programs and future programs that will include outdoor skills and leadership and internships with local outfitters.
